Everyone Makes A Difference

During Sandra Rogers talk at WC 2009, she had Sister Webb lead us in the song, "Now Let Us Rejoice." For those of you who watched the Relief Society General Broadcast last October, you might remember the gal who led the music. That was Sister Webb. She brought a smile to my face (and those sitting near me) with her abundant enthusiasm!! You can imagine how she can get a choir to sing with her many wonderful expressions and leading techniques. Well, she got to try it out on about 18,000 women in the Marriott Center!! It gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes. I had hoped to share a video clip I took of the final results, but honestly, someone nearby is singing off-key which brought a blush to my face and made me laugh. I'm pretty sure it was me, but my friend Cindy would claim it was her! Who knows?! Anyway, the video clip doesn't recapture the magic of the moment of actually being there, but the message is powerful for all of us. She said that even if we don't think we can sing, we CAN make a difference! She said EVERYONE makes a difference. EVERYONE! When you walk into a room, YOU make a difference. YOU make a difference to those sitting next to you. To emphasize it further, she had us introduce ourselves to people around us we didn't know. The lady in front of me was thrilled when she learned I was from Oregon, as she is originally from Eugene Oregon.

Then we sang: "Now let us rejoice in the day of salvation. No longer as strangers on earth need we roam. Good tidings are sounding to us and each nation, and shortly the hour of redemption will come. When all that was promised the Saints will be given, and none will molest them from morn until ev'n. And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, and Jesus will say to all Israel, "Come Home." We'll love one another and never dissemble, but cease to do evil and ever be one. And when the ungodly are fearing and tremble, we'll rise with the just when the Savior doth come. (chorus) In faith we'll rely on the arm of Jehovah to guide through these last days of trouble and gloom. And after the scourges and harvest are over, we'll rise with the just when the Savior doth come....and Christ and His people will ever be one." (LDS Hymn book page 3)

Sister Rogers reminded us we have a perfect friend beside us to buoy us up and to strengthen us in our hard times, which of course is Jesus Christ. Those able to go forth in the strength of the Lord understand their purpose in life. They know God and understand His mercies. They understand the character of Christ. Going forth in His strength requires us to trust in Him. The winds of mortality will still blow against them, but rather than dwell on the 'lone and dreary world' they rejoice in the redemption of Jesus Christ.

Rejoice! YOU make a DIFFERENCE!
